The Plymouth Prowler, later renamed the Chrysler Prowler, is a retro-styled vehicle manufactured and marketed in 1997, and between 1999 through 2002. After the Plymouth marque was discontinued, the Prowler was sold as a Chrysler Prowler for the 2001 and 2002 model years. Chrysler engineers were given the opportunity to design their preferred “hot rod” or “sportster” type vehicle.

Due to limited trunk space, Chrysler offered a $5,000 trailer option. The trailers resembled the back end of a Prowler and had smaller versions of the five-spoke wheels found on the vehicle. Chrysler’s designers intended to justify the production of the Prowler as an exercise in research for how to properly use aluminum materials.
