The Corvette badge celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1978 by producing two special editions, a special silver anniversary paint package and an Indy Pace Car edition. After 25 years, the Corvette was finally selected as the Official Pace Car of the Indianapolis 500, the 62nd running of the race. The L82 205 horsepower engine could do 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. There were 6,502 Pace car editions produced, one for each of Chevrolets dealerships and cost $13,650 each. In contrast there were 40,274 standard edition Corvettes produced, 15,283 with the Silver Anniversary Paint. The standard edition had a base price of $9,350. The Pace Car Edition had front and rear spoilers added.
