The Trans Am was Pontiac’s top pony car and 1976 was no different, selling one Trans Am for every three Firebirds. The Trans Am was based on the Firebird coupe body style and built on the F-body platform.

The base engine was a 400 cid V8 producing 185 horsepower. The “shovel nose” was redesigned for 1976 giving it a more aerodynamic look, accented by integral body-color bumpers at both the front and rear. The hood continued to display the immense “screaming chicken” Firebird emblem.

There were 46,701 Pontiac Trans Ams produced in 1976 at a starting price of $4,987.
