The MG Midget was produced from 1961 through 1979. The first series, known as the Midget MkI, was produced from 1961 through 1964. To save money and bring it quickly to the marketplace, this version was essentially just an Austin-Healey Sprite MkII with MG badging. The Midget MkII was introduced in 1964 and remained in production until 1966. This was a much more practical vehicle, with roll-up windows and exterior door handles as well as more horsepower.  The MG Midget MkIII was produced from 1966 through 1974. The engine grew is size and output to 1275 cc producing 65 horsepower. In total there were 100,246 MG Midgets MkIII produced.

Highlights:

  • The MK III used a de-tuned Mini-Cooper “S” engine
  • Had they used the standard “S” engine, the Midget would have been faster than the higher-priced MGB
  • Price new: $2,300
