The Chrysler 300 “letter cars” were the top of the line automobiles in styling, luxury, and performance. The 1964 300 K, introduced in September 1963, was the ninth in the letter series. Designed by Virgil Exner, they were advertised as having a “crisp, clean, custom look”.  Due to the low sales of the 300J series in 1963, previously standard items were deleted to lower the price by nearly one thousand dollars.  Customers responded as anticipated, and sales expanded to 3.022 coupes and 625 convertibles.   The sticker price of the stripped down model was about $4,000 for the coupe.
