The compact car Ford Falcon, built between 1960 and 1970, was designed to competehead to head with the other compact cars of its day, the Chevrolet Corvair, PlymouthValiant, Studebaker Lark, and the AMC Rambler. Ford produced these ‘compact’ cars inthe USA, Canada, Australia, Argentina, Mexico and Chile. Only by American standardswas the Falcon a compact car, in all other markets it was considered a mid-size car.

The 144 cid engine produced 85 bhp and was capable of 32 mpg according to Fordtesting. In 1963 a four-door, Deluxe wagon, Ranchero and convertible models becameavailable. The Ford Falcon quickly outsold the competition. 31,192 of the Falcon Futuraconvertibles were built in 1963 at a suggested price of $2,470. The 1963 Ford Falconplatform was used for the basis of the 1964 1/2 Ford Mustang.
