The first Porsche to take first overall at the 24 hours of Le Mans In 1970 and 1971 was the Porsche 917. Gerald Knapp recognized the immediate popularity of the Porsche 917 and subsequently designed the Laser 917 kit car and began production under the name Elite Enterprises.  The Laser 917 was the first ever manufactured and most popular replication of Porsche 917. It was the Elite Enterprises who originally built and sold this amazing replica. The Laser 917 was engineered to bolt easily to an unmodified VW Beetle or Karma Ghia chassis.  It was designed to be powered by your choice of a VW, Porsche, or Corvair engine.   There were about 2000 Laser 917 kit cars sold and only about 200 on the road today.

Highlights:

  • Originally manufactured by Elite Enterprises
  • Replica of Porsche 917 (from 1970-5); Original Porsche 917’s often worth over $250,000
  • About 1,000 kits sold
