As Henry Ford decreed in 1927, an all-new car called for restarting the alphabet. So as the car that followed Henry’s Model T was the Model A, rather than build an MG TG for 1956, the folks at Abingdon opted instead for MGA. With the side frame members moved outward, permitting lower seating and center of gravity for a far more modern ride, the MGA took advantage of the recent Austin-Morris merger into the British Motor Corporation with the new 1,489 cc “B” series powerplant, making 68 bhp.
