The Jeepster, which debuted in the fall of 1947, was a roadster with side curtains produced by the Willy’s Corporation. Produced for only three years, it was never as successful as Willy’s hoped. It was built on the same chassis as the all-steel station wagon and ½ ton pick-up. The front end was the same as the station wagon and used the rear fenders from the pick-up. Entry to the rear seats was difficult with the top up but top down entry was made easy with art-deco aluminum tread plates on the front and top of the rear fenders. It was powered by the Willy’s Go-Devil, 4 cylinder F-head engine rated at 63 horsepower. An optional flathead 6 producing 75 horsepower was available for 1950. There were 19,131 built in 1950 at a cost of $1,900.
