1947 was the year Studebaker introduced the Raymond Loewy/Virgil Exner design so radically different from pre-WW II auto bodies still being produced in immediate post-war years. It was the often-ridiculed “coming-or-going?” body, featuring the drastically flattened trunk profile.

Highlights:

  • When introduced in May 1946, the 1947 Studebakers were first all-new postwar cars
  • Only minor grille changes for 1948
  • Two series: Champion and Commander
  • This Champion Regal Deluxe convertible’s price new: $2,059
  • 9,996 produced
