The 1940 Chevrolet was advertised with the slogan “Royal Clipper Styling” with more flowing lines, an alligator hood, and a grille that bore a resemblance to that of a higher-priced Buick. The Special Deluxe was a new series in 1940, more sumptuously appointed than any previous Chevrolet. It was distinguished by stainless steel hood and beltline trim along with such amenities as dual wipers, dual horns, a 30-hour dashboard clock, and a deluxe steering wheel with horn ring. The Special Deluxe convertible coupe featured a power top and leather upholstery. The 1940 Chevrolets were powered by a 216 cid, inline six producing 85 horsepower. A total of 11,820 Chevrolet Special Deluxe were built in 1940 and list for $898.
